Kolkata Knight Riders will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021 Match 49 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 3rd. KKR went to Punjab Kings by five wickets in their final match, while SRH was defeated by the Chennai Super Kings by six wickets.
Kolkata Knight Riders have got off to a good start on the UAE stage of IPL 2021, but a defeat in their last game against Punjab Kings has balanced their chances of making it to the play-offs. They have a better net run rate compared to other teams stuck in the middle of the table, but two points would be paramount if they take on bottom-seeded Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday.
Leading the batter against Punjab Kings (PBKS), KKR scored 165 in the first innings. Venkatesh Iyer continued his impressive start to his IPL career, scoring 67 strokes. KKR defended the goal and missed their chances on the field, which also resulted in them going down by five wickets. Varun Chakravarthy continued his fine run with 2/24, after Iyer, Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana played their part with the bat. Skipper Eoin Morgan’s form remains the main concern for the two-time champion as the southpaws have scored scores of 7, 8, 0 and 2 in his last four appearances.
SRH, meanwhile, has been officially eliminated from the tournament, having lost nine of their first eleven games. Their most recent defeat came against the Chennai Super Kings – by 6 wickets – again a product of collective failure of the battle. On a slow Sharjah wicket, SRH managed 134/7 and Jason Holder (3/27) was the only star with the ball as CSK went home with two balls left.
SRH could well be the party spoilers for other teams vying for play-off spots, with their young guns like Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg eager to make their presence felt. That builds for an exciting battle on Sunday.
Kolkata Knight Riders – L, W, L, W, W
KKR was clinical in each of their three wins in the IPL second leg, while their two defeats came in last-over nail biters, suggesting they were a tough team to pass. Should Morgan and Dinesh Karthik get back into shape, KKR could be the team to beat as the tournament draws to a close.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – L, W, L, L, L
Just one win in the last five games, two of 11 in total, reflects the Sunrisers’ misery. There has been too much reliance on the highest order and Jason Holder and Rashid Khan have also received little support in the bowling department.
KKR and SRH have played 20 matches against each other. KKR has won 13 games while SRH has won seven times. The average score for KKR is 151 while it is 156 for SRH.
David Warner and Kane Williamson have respectively scored 619 and 197 points against KKR. Nitish Rana has scored 261 points against SRH.

BONS match prediction
In terms of recent form and overall team combination, KKR are the favorites to win the match.
The team that bats second has won the last three games in Dubai. Also, from what we’ve seen in the match between KKR and PBKS, there’s plenty of assistance for pacers on this surface. The fast bowlers will get to work with the new ball and so Bhuvneshwari Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Tim Southee and Shivam Mavi could be the game-changers for their respective matches on Sunday.
