IPL 2021 | Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Punjab Kings

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will take on Punjab Kings in IPL 2021 Match 48 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday 3 October. Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets in their last match, while Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 5 wickets.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) to take two points from the game and strengthen their position in the race to play-offs. For PBKS, they desperately need a win to compete for fourth place and earn a place in the playoffs.

RCB exudes confidence as they have found winning momentum with two wins from their last two matches. In their previous match, RCB defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets. Bowling first, RCB bowlers capped the opposition to a total of 149/9 in 20 overs. Harshal Patel was once again the bowlers’ choice as he knocked down 3 batsmen for 34 runs under his spell. Yuzvendra Chahal was brilliant, taking a couple of wickets for 18 runs. Chasing the target proved an easy task for RCB as they completed it in 17.1 overs. Glenn Maxwell scored an unbeaten half-century. Getting Maxwell back is a positive development for RCB, but AB de Villiers’ form remains a concern. Contributions from Mohammed Siraj and other pacesetters can also do wonders for the team.

PBKS will also go all out to qualify for the play-offs after beating a merry Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) 5 wickets. Bowling first, they capped KKR for 165, with Arshdeep Singh picking 3 wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi also knocked off a pair of batsmen by conceding just 22 runs. On the hunt for goal, KL Rahul played a 67-run captaincy and was sacked in the last over. Shahrukh Khan scored the winning points for the team. Punjab should try to get rid of their habit of taking the matches to the finals. The middle order consisting of Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda will need to provide momentum towards the end to take advantage of the foundations laid by openers. A fourth bowler after Shami, Arshdeep and Bishnoi will also have to bring his A-game.

Royal Challengers Bangalore – WWLLL

Two wins from five games is a disappointing record for the team that has ambitions to win the title. But the two wins in their last two games have given them the winning momentum that was essential for the future. The form of AB de Villiers is a flaw for the team to address. Their pace attack, except for Harshal Patel, was also not very effective in the second leg of the tournament.

Two wins from the last five games show a lack of consistency in the team’s performance. Their batting order has so far not been aligned and so the responsibility for scoring runs largely rests on the shoulders of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. As Shahrukh Khan played in the last match, he can be the finisher for the team and the franchise should persevere with him in the eleven playing.

head to head

Both teams have played 27 games against each other. PBKS has won the match 15 times, while RCB has won 12 of these two matches. Also, both teams have an average score of 159 runs (approximately) against each other.

Virat Kohli has scored 716 runs against PBKS, while KL has scored 412 runs in 7 games against RCB. Yuzvendra Chahal has picked 22 wickets against PBKS.

Pitch Report

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium has slowed down a bit and hitting the surface has become tricky even in the afternoon games. The ball does not slide on the surface and so it is difficult for batsmen who like to play shots on the rise. The team that wins the toss should choose to bat first, as it can get harder to hit while chasing. Also, the spinners will play a key role in this game.
