KKR vs SRH | ‘We’ve been up against Umran Malik, he’s special’ – Kane Williamson praises SRH’s young speedster

After a six-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday in Dubai, losing captain Kane Williamson has stated that his team has worked hard but it has not paid off. However, he was quite impressed with the young Umran Malik, who he says is a special bowler.

Kane Williamson praised Umran Malik after the match and stated that the 21-year-old fast bowler is a special bowler. Malik, who played his first IPL game, overclocked high speeds in his first-ever against Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer, breaking 150 km/h on speedgun.

“We ran into Malik in the nets – he’s special, a lot of pace. Young guy running in and going hard,” Williamson said after the game.

Abdul Samad played an 18-ball scored 25, but that wasn’t enough because SRH was limited to 115/8. Varun Chakravarthy, Tim Southee and Shivam Mavi each picked two wickets. Shakib, who played his first game in the second stage of IPL 2021, scalped one wicket and restricted the runflow along with Sunil Narine, who allowed only 11 runs from his four overs.

In response, KKR lost their in-form batsmen Venkatesh Iyer and Rahul Tripathi early, but Shubman Gill laid the groundwork with a solid 57 to set up a six-wicket win.

After SRH’s 10th loss of 12 games in the season, Williamson stated that his team worked hard but failed to achieve the desired results. He further lamented the lack of good partnerships with the bat.

“(On tie) About 150. It was tough bowling to defend a low total. We worked hard and it just didn’t pay off. When we got to the last 3-4 overs with the bat, wanted to have a crack and get 150. Looking back is nice, honestly we wish we had some partnerships. That’s part of the game — trying to identify what a competitive total will be,” Williamson said.
