A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of Utah soccer player Aaron Lowe, the Salt Lake City Police Department announced on Sunday.
Buk M. Buk has been charged with attempted murder, attempted murder and discharge of a firearm.
Lowe, 21, was gunned down early on Sept. 26 at a house party in Salt Lake City’s Sugar Hill neighborhood. A 20-year-old woman who was also shot in the incident is in critical condition after extensive surgery.
Police arrested Buk in Draper, Utah, early Sunday.
“In times of need, we turned to our community,” Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown said in a statement. “We asked people to come forward and share the information they had. With those tips and the relentless pursuit of justice by our detectives, we arrested the person charged with the murder of Aaron Lowe. So many lives have been lost. affected by this senseless shooting.”
Lowe was a sophomore cornerback from Mesquite, Texas. He was close to Utah who drove back Ty Jordan, who was accidentally killed in a shooting in December, and became the first recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship in August.
Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell wore number 22 during practice Saturday in honor of Lowe and Jordan.
