Pakistan can beat India if they play to their potential, says Waqar Younis

Former Pakistani cricketer Waqar Younis believes Pakistan can beat India in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE if they play to their potential. He added that there will be tremendous pressure on the players as it will be the first game of the tournament for both teams.

The 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE kicks off on October 17 and India will face Pakistan on October 24. India-Pakistan is one of the fiercest rivalries on the pitch and these matches have a lot of viewers. India and Pakistan have played 12 matches in the World Cups and Pakistan has yet to beat India in the tournament. Former Pakistani pacesetter Waqar Younis has expressed his views on the India-Pakistan match and has said Pakistan can beat India if they play to their potential.

“I sincerely believe that Pakistan can beat India in their first meeting if they play to their potential. It won’t be easy but we definitely have the staff who can get through. It’s a big game and both teams will be under pressure because it will be their first game of the tournament, but the first few deliveries and runs will be crucial, but if we can negotiate well, we can win the game,” Waqar told CricWick.

Bowling has always been the strength of the Pakistan cricket team. They always have pacers on their team who have the ability to fire the battle units on their own. Waqar Younis was the bowling coach of the Pakistani team, but he resigned on the day of the squad’s announcement for the T20 World Cup. Reflecting on the quality of Pakistani bowlers, Waqar Younis has said that bowling has always been the strength of the team and that the bowlers have the ability to defend scores. He added that Hasan Ali will lead the bowling unit.

“Bowling has always been our forte and we have seen in the past that we have the ability to defend scores. We’ve done that in Champions Trophy 2017, we’ve done that before, so I see no reason why this peloton can’t match that performance. I think Hasan understands bowling better than any other bowler in the current lot and will be our leader in bowling. He certainly has the skill and character to do great things on the biggest stage,” he concluded.
