Philadelphia pottery artist Roberto Lugo

Roberto Lugo grew up in a North Philadelphia neighborhood better known for poverty and crime than pottery. Still, the 40-year-old artist’s ceramics, depicting the faces of his personal heroes, gave a modern twist to classic teapots. Correspondent Serena Altschul talks to Lugo, whose work can be seen in some of the country’s leading museums and galleries, about how he shapes his passion to inspire others.
