It wasn’t supposed to be for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday as the team suffered a close loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. This was a great showdown, but Kansas City was able to play late enough to get the job done.
While there is a lot of disappointment for the fans who just left Lincoln Financial Field, they should certainly be happy with quarterback Jalen Hurts’ play. In a losing attempt, the sophomore signalman played really fantastic.
Eagles signaller Jalen Hurts looked sharp against the Chiefs on Sunday
Indeed, in the 42-30 loss to Kansas City in Week 4, Hurts impressed from start to finish in this one. Unfortunately for him, he faced the one and only Patrick Mahomes, who was his usual brilliant self, and he threw five touchdowns.
Thanks to Hurts’ strong play, the Eagles trailed 28-23 in the fourth quarter. They were hoping to get a defensive stop to put the ball back in Hurts’ hands to try and take the lead. Mahomes had other ideas, however, as he found Tyreek Hill for a score to take the lead to 35-23.
The defeat shouldn’t take away from how well Hurts played, though, as he ended up throwing 370 yards and one touchdown, while adding 47 rushing yards. For Philly supporters, they were thrilled to see how the chemistry between Hurts and rookie wideout Devonta Smith continued to grow.
On the day, Smith posted seven receptions for 122 yards. At the end of the day, the Eagles couldn’t do enough to clinch the win, but this isn’t on Hurts. He can hold his head up after a strong day at the office. There is no doubt that he has a decent future to pull off the attack on Nick Sirianni.
