Sensational in Rome in the run-up to the elections. Loud, terrifying, dramatic and spectacular: in the late evening of Saturday between Ostiense and Marconi and included the Ponte dell’Industria, known as the ‘Iron Bridge’, which after being devoured by flames it literally collapsed: the fire, the causes of which are still unknown, produced a black column of smoke that was clearly visible from the neighboring districts. Hundreds of people gathered along the Tiber to witness what happened: “Not even Nero…”, the Romans whispered, hypnotized by a dramatic show.
Some external parts of the bridge collapsed, the supporting structure of which remained standing. The failures, in detail, they related to the galleries of the side services and in particular the parts facing the square of the radio are damaged.
Of course hundreds of reports to the police also because the area is close to one of the neighborhoods of the Roman nightlife. Many photos and videos of passers-by immediately started circulating on social media. Pieces of the bridge they broke off and fell into the Tibera disastrous collapse. The Ponte dell’Industria – this is the official name of the work – was built between 1862 and 1863 and is 131 meters long. In short, a piece of history of Rome.
The flames were considerable just before one o’clock in the morning. Fortunately, no one was involved, the fire service confirms. And again, the flames affected the two side paths to the structure where electrical and gas lines pass. The flames have also taken root in the surrounding vegetation and in some makeshift shelters where homeless people live. According to the testimonies, the fire would have started from the huts located under the structure, even though the dynamics need to be clarified in detail.
