Due to geopolitical tensions in the region, not many cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir state have made it to the highest level. However, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has proven to be a good platform for cricketers from that state, some of which come to light in the ongoing 2021 IPL season. Currently, two J&K cricketers play in the league, and both are in the Sunrisers Hyderabad team.
One of them is Abdul Samad, who has played eleven in almost every match for the SRH so far. On the other hand, a young pacemaker is called Umran Malik | who recently joined the squad and he was lucky enough to make his debut in IPL 2021 Match 49 where SRH took on the Kolkata Knight Riders in Dubai.

The 21-year-old was called up to the SRH squad as a last-minute replacement for T Natarajan who tested positive for Covid-19 last month, and was super impressive on his IPL debut last night. Social media even went crazy when he became the only Indian pacesetter to clock 150+ km/h at the tournament. He also overclocked this pace in his first in his IPL career!
He wasn’t lucky enough to get a wicket on his IPL debut but he finished 0/27 in his four overs and looked quite disciplined too apart from a few wides down the leg side as he bowled to left handed Nitish Rana. He certainly made the KKR batsmen uncomfortable and it’s a great sight for Indian cricket as we haven’t seen many bowls at this speed over the years and even decades.
