Police officers shot a man while he was working at an asylum seekers’ residence in Harsefeld, Lower Saxony. The 40-year-old had attacked the officers with a knife on Monday evening, according to the Public Prosecution Service of Stade. The police then fired several shots.
The man from Sudan was taken to a hospital in Stade, where he died. The prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation against the police officers involved for manslaughter. The exact circumstances were initially unclear. According to the OM, it is also checked whether the agents acted in self-defense.
