Barcelona are determined to secure an exit in January for France’s forgotten centre-back Samuel Umtiti, according to reports.
Umtiti, 28, was pushed to the exit in the summer as Catalans sought drastic austerity measures amid a financial situation labeled “deeply worrying” by President Joan Laporta. However, the defender turned down offers from Lazio, Besiktas and Nice, after which a meeting with the club hierarchy gave him another chance.
That did not happen, as boss Ronald Koeman never gave him a performance in 2021/22. SPORT have reported that his employers are determined to get him off the wage bill in the winter.
Umtiti is under contract at Camp Nou until the summer of 2023. The 2018 World Cup winner is currently in the pecking order behind Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Oscar Mingueza.
