The rumor mill is running at full speed about Arsenal that supposedly want to replace Lacazette in January with Watkins or Calvert-Lewin
Mikel Arteta is still in the rebuilding process with the Gunners. After a very shaky start, they are now undefeated in four games in the league and are now in 11th place, just six points behind the leaders.
The Spaniard spent around £150m in the summer transfer window a few months ago. That money brought him a central half and midfielder in Ben White and Martin Odegaard, but he failed to secure another striker.
The club relied heavily on their aging forwards who have shown shaky form in recent months. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is back in the top scorer list, but his partner Alexandre Lacazette is struggling to get into the starting squad.
The 30-year-old Frenchman has only played in two league games this season and with just one year left on his contract, it is highly unlikely to be renewed. Last year he scored 13 goals in 31 games, so it would still be possible to sell him in January. Otherwise, the player will most likely leave for free in June.

How will they replace Lacazette?
Instead, the Gunners have already started looking at younger English alternatives to replace him.
The two men the club will choose from are Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. Both players are 25 years old or younger and have scored more than Lacazette last season.
Arsenal’s biggest problem is that they can’t promise European football to these players who want to continue their career. Looking at last season’s results, Arsenal would be a step forward for the young players, but they have both shown enough quality to be called up to the England national team alongside the Champions League winners.
While this is just an unlikely rumor so far, Watkins would be the most likely signing for Arsenal.
Calvert-Lewin is the star striker at Everton and has grown up in their ranks. Watkins, on the other hand, now competes with new signing Danny Ings and has only been with the club for two years.
The English striker would be a promising asset to Arsenal. He will be able to partner or compete with Aubameyang for a striker position.
