Osimhen and Koulibaly receive racist insults at Napoli victory 9ja Flavor

SSC Napoli duo Victor Osimhen and Kalidou Koulibaly have used their social media accounts to speak out against the racist abuse they have received from Fiorentina fans during their Italian Serie A match day seven at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday.

The incident occurred shortly after the game when the trio of Koulibaly, Osimhen and loaned Cameroonian midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa entered the locker room after helping their side to a 2-1 comeback win in Florence, and a group of home team fans start spewing racist insults at the African trio.

“They called me a fucking monkey,” Koulibaly wrote on Twitter. “These people have nothing to do with sports. You have to identify them and keep them out of any event.” As the Senegal international confronted the fans before being led away from the stage, Osimhen and Anguissa just smiled and walked away.

Nigeria striker Osimhen called for supporters

to “understand how disgusting it is to have a
individually because of the color of their skin.”

Fiorentina immediately made a statement, saying: “Fiorentina presses the most firm and hard”
condemnation for the episodes of racism that
took place yesterday during the match against
Napoli, General Manager (Joe]Barone, has personally apologized after the game.”

The club also promised to track down the perpetrator(s) by viewing CCTV footage and punish them according to established rules. This was not the first public incident of racism in Serie A this season, as AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan was also the victim of racist abuse in their 1-1 draw against Juventus three weeks ago. The perpetrator was found and banned from the stadium for life.

Napoli won their match against Fiorentina 2-1 to keep 100% of their start to the season in Serie A. After trailing a goal from Lucas Martinez Quarta, red-hot striker Victor Osimhen won a penalty for the Partenopei, leading to Hirving Lozano equalized before Kosovo defender Amir Rrahmani scored the winner for Napoli.
