English all-rounder Sam Curran has been banned from competing in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a low back injury.
Curran, who currently plays with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, complained of back pain after their match against the Rajasthan Royals on Saturday.
He was immediately admitted for scans, which revealed an injury and will fly back to the UK in a few days for a full assessment by the ECB’s medical team.
Tom Curran has been included in the squad as a replacement for Sam. In addition, the left arm pacer Reece Topley has also been added as a travel reserve.
Curran’s injury, already related to the absence of Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, will be another big blow to Eoin Morgan and co. With his skill with both the bat and the ball, Curran was drafted into the squad as a true all-rounder, giving balance to the side.
England open their campaign against defending champions West Indies on October 23 at the Dubai International Stadium.
