The selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma is closely monitoring his form. It has been 873 days since Hardik last bowled in IPL. MI’s head coach Mahela Jayawardene had previously stated that Hardik will not bowl in IPL 2021.
“If we push too hard right now (to bowl), he (Hardik) could be a problem that he might even struggle with and might not be an asset as a batsman. We’re trying to do what’s best for the future.” Hardik. Whether or not he can bowl in the IPL is something we have to look at,” Jayawardene had previously stated.
Selectors aren’t too convinced to take on Hardik as batsman for the T20 WC. His performance with the bat is also not good enough. In 2021 he averaged 24.00 in T20Is, 23.80 in ODIs. In IPL 2021, his batting average is even meager at 13.57.
