Full house in Schmidts Tivoli thanks to 2G
“Finally a full house again!” The performers of the cult musical “Heiße Ecke” at the Schmidts Tivoli Theater in Hamburg were of course happy last night to be able to play again to an almost sold out crowd after months of restrictions. This was made possible because from now on there will only be guests in the audience who have either been vaccinated or recovered. The three houses of the Schmidt family on the Reeperbahn – the Schmidt Theater, the Schmidts Tivoli and the Schmidtchen – were the first larger theaters in Hamburg to switch completely to the 2G model. This not only eliminates the mask and distance requirements, but also the capacity limitations. Where previously only 40 percent of the seats could be occupied, full occupancy is finally possible again, according to the press spokeswoman of the Schmidt Theater: “We look forward to returning to normalcy.”
11,547 new infections nationwide, incidence is falling slightly
The number of new corona infections in Germany has fallen slightly in a weekly comparison. The Robert Koch Institute reported 11,547 new cases in one day this morning. That’s 233 less than a week ago. The nationwide seven-day incidence fell from 63.6 yesterday to 62.3; a week ago it was 61.0.
Insults and threatening emails to school administrators due to corona measures
Since the start of classes after the summer holidays, schools in Lower Saxony have been confronted with violent attacks from parents due to the Corona measures. “These are individual cases, but each is one too many,” said the spokesman for the Ministry of Culture, Sebastian Schumacher. Parents tried to get exemption from the attendance, test or mask requirement with questionable certificates and threatened school principals with lawsuits. In individual cases, school administrators and teachers received threatening emails or were verbally abused. The ministry did not provide figures on the incidents. School board president Andrea Kunkel said that in every school there is the issue of parents not wanting their children to be tested. Dealing with them takes a lot of strength in everyday life. Compulsory attendance has been made compulsory again since the summer holidays. According to the Ministry of Culture, anyone who does not come to classes because he or she does not want to take a corona self-test will be treated as a “truant”. However, test refusers are allowed to enter the school grounds to participate in written work and in final and secondary school exams.
Spahn and Wieler are preparing for autumn and winter
The feared increase in corona and flu infections in the autumn and winter is the subject of today’s federal press conference at 10 a.m. in Berlin. Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) and Robert Koch Institute (RKI) President Lothar H. Wieler will appear before the public together. The chairman of the Permanent Vaccination Commission (Stiko), Thomas Mertens, is also present. In its latest weekly report, the RKI predicted an increase in corona numbers. The reasons given by the RKI are that a large number of people still have not been vaccinated and that the contacts indoors increase in the autumn. Doctors are also afraid of a flu wave. There is currently an accumulation of respiratory infections among minors. According to doctors’ reports Infections are now being caught up that did not occur due to the partial lockdown last winter and spring.
Schleswig-Holstein: 185 new corona cases
In Schleswig-Holstein, 185 new corona cases were reported within 24 hours, compared to 215 a week ago. The seven-day incidence in SH is 28.0 (data status: October 5). The day before it was 28.9, a week ago it was 30.4.
