Liverpool News Roundup: Reds eye a move for Benfica striker, Riise wants to see his compatriot play at Anfield, and more

After their thrilling 2-2 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, Liverpool are hoping their players will return from the international break without sustaining injuries.

The Reds are still undefeated in the Premier League and are just one point behind leaders Chelsea.

On that note, here’s a look at the latest Liverpool news and rumors from October 5, 2021.

Alisson says new quarantine rules haven’t solved anything

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has lashed out at the new quarantine rules players must follow after returning from red-listed countries.

Alisson, along with teammates Fabinho, Sadio Mane and Kostas Tsimikas, are expected to serve a mandatory 10-day quarantine period in “bespoke facilities”.

However, they are allowed to leave the quarantine at least once a day to play or train. Alisson feels the decision has done nothing to solve the problem.

“Solved, I don’t say, because they solved a problem with another for us players. We will represent our team, which is our duty, we are all very honored. If we go there and do this, we are already far from our family, if we go back we have to stay away from them for another 10 days.

“Even if we are fully vaccinated, we still have to go back and quarantine. We don’t want to be privileged, we just want the decisions made to be in line with reality. We understand the situation in the world, but the decisions that are taken, makes no sense.”

Liverpool linked to Darwin Nunez swoop

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Benfica forward Darwin Nunez as they want to add more firepower to their attack.

The Reds decided not to add a backup to their attack last summer, signing just one player in the form of defender Ibrahima Konate.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the secondary striker, according to the Daily Star.

Nunez reportedly has a massive £125 million release clause in his current contract, but he could be sold for around £70 million.

The 22-year-old has taken off this season and put in a stellar performance against Barcelona in Benfica’s final group stage match in the Champions League.

Former Liverpool star says Haaland would be a good fit for the club

Former Liverpool star John Arne Riise believes Erling Haaland is an “incredible player” and would suit Jurgen Klopp’s football style.

John Arne Riise on Erling Haaland: “Of course I would love to have him at Liverpool because he is an incredible player. He is in great form and I think he would suit Jurgen Klopp’s football style. I also think he likes Liverpool would love it as a club.” #awlive [goal] https://t.co/pPiGHz7YIC

The Norwegian is arguably the hottest asset in the transfer market right now and has already been linked with several top clubs in Europe, including Chelsea and Real Madrid.

However, Riise would like to see his compatriot play at Anfield in the future.

“Of course I’d love to have him at Liverpool because he’s an incredible player. He’s in great shape and I think he would suit Jurgen Klopp’s football style. I also think he would love Liverpool as a club,” he said. Riise.
