MANILA, Philippines—Add a marriage proposal to your old girlfriend to the list of things Derrick Rose did on a basketball floor—and no less at Madison Square Garden.
The 2011 MVP posed the question during a private dinner on the Knicks’ home floor and posted a poem dedicated to Alaina Anderson to his Instagram account.
“We are two peas in a pod because [because] we are really misunderstood. We got our heart and swag from this place called Englewood,” Rose wrote.
“I will always love you because [because] you go above and beyond. We have built a beautiful family and an unbreakable bond. Thank you queen.”
Anderson, according to TMZ, didn’t expect Rose to propose that day, as the Knicks security guard only gave her a promise the day before the proposal, saying, “Hopefully one day I can get you the real deal.”
Rose, 33, and Anderson, 26, have been together since 2016 and have two children.
The first overall pick of the 2008 Draft is in his second season in his second stint with the Knicks and helped the franchise reach the 2021 Playoffs averaging 14.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.2 assist.
Rose spent his first eight years with the Chicago Bulls before being assigned to New York in 2016.
He then spent a brief stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers before joining the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2018 and the Detroit Pistons in 2019.
