Women in the CDU demand more participation – Winter: we need to get younger and more feminine
CDU politicians are pushing for more female participation in their party. “We should actually become younger and more feminine,” board member Wiebke Winter demanded in the Funke media group’s newspapers. “Diversity means you can create policies that might appeal to even more people”point them out.
Winter criticized that those currently being discussed as a possible successor to Armin Laschet as CDU chairman were all men and came from North Rhine-Westphalia. She expressed the hope that “the field will become even more mixed”.
With regard to women, however, Winter admitted, “We can’t bake candidates at the moment.” All the more important is it to build women to “become better structurally”. The Bremen state chairman of the Junge Union rejected a quota. She advocated “political parental leave” to make it easier for young mothers to combine family and political activities. In addition, there should be more mentoring and networking opportunities for women.
Party vice president Julia Klöckner also admitted that women in the CDU were not visible enough across the board. “There is only one woman among all the group leaders of the Union in the Länder, things are not looking better among the party leaders in the Länder. Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung “(NOZ).
The deputy leader of the Union faction, Gitta Connemann (CDU), called for women to be taken into account in the reorganization of the party leadership. “We have strong women of all ages. We need them in the leadership of the party,” Connemann also told NOZ. (dpa)
