Pakistan captain Babar Azam has stated that his team is confident of winning the battle against India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. He added that his side has been used to the conditions in the UAE for the past 3-4 years, and that will benefit the team when it faces neighbors on October 24.
Pakistan will close horns with India on October 24 in Dubai, and the Babar Azam-led side will be eyeing their first T20 World Cup win against neighbours. Since the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007, Pakistan has competed against India five times, but lost each time. However, the Babar-Azam led the way to the fixture after the T20Is’ six straight victories in their recent outings. Their last defeat at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium was in November 2015.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam stated that it is a high-intensity match against India in the T20 World Cup, and regardless of the pressure, the team is confident of winning the battle against the Virat Kohli-led side. He added that Pakistan has been well exposed to UAE conditions over the past 3-4 years and that will benefit the team in the competition.
“We know the pressure and the high intensity of every match, especially the first. Hopefully we can win the match and continue the momentum. We have been playing cricket in the UAE for the past 3-4 years and we know the conditions very well. We know how the wicket will behave and the adjustments the batters will have to make. On the day whoever plays the better cricket wins the game. If you ask me, we will win,” ICC quoted Babar as saying.
“As a team, our confidence and morale are very high. We are not thinking about the past, but about the future. We are preparing for that. I am confident that we are well prepared and will play good cricket on the day ”, said Babar further.
Speaking about the newly appointed support staff, Babar said the experience of Matthew Hayden and Vernon Philander will help the players learn a lot from them.
“Hayden and Philander bring a lot of experience. We will try to learn as much as possible and quickly from them. The guys have the ability to absorb quickly and mix with them.
“You can see Philander is already working hard with the bowlers and you can see the past record, bowlers win you the tournament. Hasan Ali was our best bowler in the Champions Trophy. He will take over the bowling line-up next to him.” said Babar
