Edinson Cavani is ‘wanted’ by Barcelona as Manchester United ‘identify’ Paul Pogba’s replacement

Welcome to United On My Mind daily round-up where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories you may have missed.

Fans’ favorite Edinson Cavani is set to leave the club this summer and struggling Barcelona could look set to acquire the Uruguayan’s service as a highly regarded 21-year-old has been rated by United scouts and could serve as a replacement for Paul Pogba. Finally, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has questioned Manchester United’s decision to sign Jadon Sancho.

Barcelona comes after Cavani

Cavani has become a bit of a cult hero at Manchester United, and during his time at Old Trafford he has proven that he still has plenty to give even at the age of 34. Cavani was due to leave last summer, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær convinced the attacker. to become one more season.

However, it is incredibly likely that this will be Cavani’s last season at Old Trafford, and he already has some big European admirers.

Sport ES have reported that Barcelona are looking for a striker and Cavani is a serious candidate given that the Spanish club will be able to sign him for free when his contract expires this summer.

Barcelona will, of course, increase their search for a center-back after Sergio Aguero was rushed to hospital last week after suffering from breathing problems and chest pain during their 1-1 draw with Alaves a week ago. Barcelona confirmed he will be out for at least three months.

Monaco man could become Pogba’s replacement

As his contract ticks down every day, Pogba’s stay at Manchester United is something that will come as a huge surprise given the player’s reluctance to sign a new contract.

As Pogba approaches a move away from Manchester, a player who could come into contention to become the Frenchman’s replacement is another Frenchman – Aurelien Tchouameni.

The Daily Star reported that Manchester United had sent scouts to see Tchouameni on Thursday night when Monaco played against PSV in the UEFA Europa League. The Monaco midfielder is very thoughtful and is exactly the type of player United are looking for.

Aurelien Tchouameni is reportedly on Manchester United's radar.

United’s interest has risen recently as Pogba stalled over a contract extension. Tchouameni is likely to leave Monaco at the end of this season as interest from a number of top European clubs floods in.

Ian Wright questions Sancho’s shift

Since leaving Borussia Dortmund, Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United career has not been what everyone had hoped for. Still to register a goal or assist, Sancho’s best position is not even something that is safe. With the manager seemingly completely out of ideas on how to use one of the most promising talents in Europe, Arsenal legend Ian Wright is amazed at why Ole Gunnar Solskjær bought Sancho in the first place.

In a speech on The Kelly and Wrighty show, the former English striker did not hold back in his assessment of the Sancho situation.

“He (Solskjær) should know what he wants from this team. Manchester United knew they needed more from their right side. They are buying Sancho, but he can not get on the team.

“They’ve been chasing Jadon Sancho for a couple of years. You get Jadon Sancho and he does not play. You play with wing-backs, so why buy wingers like Sancho. What do you do with buying Sancho?”

Sancho finished second as the youngest most expensive English player in the game’s history when he signed a five-year deal at United and yet has only played five minutes overall from United’s last two games.
