Pfizer board member Gottlieb says the Covid pandemic could be over in the US in January

The Covid-19 pandemic could be over in the United States when President Biden’s workplace vaccine mandates take effect in early January, Pfizer board member Dr. Scott Gottlieb for CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Friday.

The vaccine requirements from the Danish Working Environment Authority will enter into force on 4 January for any company with at least 100 employees. All affected workers must have either their second Moderna or Pfizer injection or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson before that date or must be tested regularly for the virus.

“These mandates, which will be implemented before January 4, are really coming to an end at the end of this pandemic,” said Gottlieb, who is also a former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. “On January 4, this pandemic may well be over, at least as far as the United States is concerned, after we get through this delta wave of infection. And we will be in a more endemic phase of this virus.”
