Dayot Upamecano is a childhood fan of Manchester United, and the Bayern Munich star dreamed of the Red Devils as a youngster.
It tells the defender’s friend, Eder Verissimo, who now plays for Évreux FC 27, a fifth division club in France. The duo are both born in Évreux.
Before joining the Austrian Liefering in 2015, the central defender went through Vaillante S. Angers, FC De Prey, Évreux and Valenciennes academy.
Verissimo was with Upamecano in Évreux and Valenciennes, and also off the field, at Georges-Politzer college.
The French national team player moved to Red Bull Salzburg in 2016 before joining RB Leipzig a year later. His performance for the Bundesliga team convinced Bayern to acquire his services in the last window.
Saturday’s edition of L’Equipe has an interview with Verissimo, where the newspaper says that Upamecano ‘dreamed’ of great things as a child.
“He loved Manchester United and Sergio Ramos. We thought, ‘Imagine one day it’s us’ said Verissimo.
The player’s contract with the Bavarian club expires in 2026, and it is unlikely for him to fulfill that childhood plan to join United at some point soon.
