Airplane points can now be earned on LCBO purchases

TORONTO – Ontario shoppers can now get Aeroplan points in return for buying alcohol at LCBO.

Air Canada’s Airplane program originally announced the new partnership in a press release back in August, saying the multi-year agreement will allow customers to reap the benefits of membership while buying booze.

As of today, members will earn an Airplane point for every $ 4 spent at an LCBO store. The points can be redeemed for flights, hotels and car rental.

Officials said they also plan to allow members to use Airplane points for LCBO gift cards, even though that part of the partnership has not been launched yet. When available, members will be able to receive a $ 10 gift card for 1,000 Airplane points.

“We are excited to launch Aeroplan as a way to provide rewarding and personalized offers to our customers and suppliers,” said Vanda Provato, Chief Marketing and Digital Officer at Liquor Control Board of Ontario, in a statement.

“This launch is particularly relevant given that we are in the holiday season and many customers are looking for the perfect choice to make moments amazing.”

Shoppers will be able to earn twice the base points on their first purchase of $ 50 or more starting today until November 28th.

Officials also said shoppers who are not Aeroplan members and who sign up before November 28 will be able to receive 250 bonus points on their first LCBO purchase.

However, points can only be earned if a purchase is made in a retail store. Officials say they hope to give Aeroplan members the opportunity to earn points on online or in-app purchases “in the future.”

Shoppers do not have to be a resident of Ontario to take advantage of this offer.
