Ottawa Fire Chief Kim Ayotte appointed new emergency manager

OTTAWA – Ottawa’s fire chief has been appointed to oversee the city’s emergency services.

Kim Ayotte has been appointed the new general manager of emergency and protection services following an “extensive internal and external recruitment process,” Mayor Steve Kanellakos said in a note Tuesday.

“Given his extensive municipal experience and strong leadership skills, Kim is a valuable addition to the city’s management team and is well positioned to lead the EPS department as we move forward,” Kanellakos said.

Anthony Di Monte retired from the role last month. Ayotte had served as acting director general of emergency services.

Ayotte has more than 32 years of experience in emergency services. He came to town in 2003 and had several roles in the fire department before becoming acting GM for emergency and protection services.

He has helped control the city’s response to several emergencies, including tornadoes, floods, sinkholes and the COVID-19 pandemic.
