Internet supports woman who refuses to let 600Ib brother move in with her

One woman has said she refuses to accept and take care of her overweight brother after a lifetime of living in the shadow of her demanding, molly-spoiled younger siblings.

The woman took to social media to air her complaints against both her parents and her brother in a post shared on Reddit’s “Am I The A ** hole” forum, where it has been voted on 12,300 times. The post can be seen here.

In the post, she described how her little brother, Teddy, was born with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck and did not breathe “for at least three minutes”.

Although he escaped the incident unharmed, the woman said that ever since her parents have used that experience as “an excuse” for his behavior – behavior, she said, made her childhood “a living hell.”

From giving him his candy to even letting him open her presents on her birthday, the woman said that every time she tried to say no, her parents would remind her “he died when he came into this world.”

“I had to come to terms with Teddy’s tantrums, abuse, seizures and bad behavior,” she wrote. “If I touched a single hair on his head, I was punished while Teddy got away with what he was doing.” Redditor said the situation became so bad that she eventually, 15 years old, moved out of the house to live with other family members.

Now 35, she said her contact with her parents and Teddy, who is 26, is limited. However, the situation became further complicated after Teddy turned 18 and “decided he wanted to be a competitive eater.” According to the woman, it eventually became “just eating” with the result that Teddy now weighs close to 600 lbs. The weight gain has caused serious problems for her parents.

“He can not have a job and lives with our parents, who still take care of him and pay for everything,” she explained. “Since Teddy requires care around the clock, my parents hardly leave the house.” As a result, her parents missed her wedding and have only seen their grandchildren a handful of times during dinners in their house.

Recently, things took another turn after Teddy got a bad fall and ended up being hospitalized. During a visit to see him, his sister said she and her husband were taken aside by her parents, who asked them for a “large sum” to cover the cost of Teddy’s care.

Her parents said they had no money to keep looking after him and had to dive into their retirement funds. They also suggested that once Teddy has recovered, he move in with her and her husband because they are “well off with a bigger house.”

The woman said her parents told her they needed “a break” because they look after him “all year round” while she’s just visiting.

She reacted angrily, rejecting their request for money to cover his care, saying there was no chance he was moving into their house even though they “could afford it.”

After leaving the hospital, the woman said her mother called her and accused her of “giving up the family.” She fired back, saying she would not take care of him “under any circumstances” and that he was their “problem”.

After reflecting on the conflict, the woman said she had since started to feel “a little bad”, even though her brother made her life “hell”.

For most people who commented on the Reddit post, the responsibility for the whole situation lay with the woman’s parents.

KittyKittyMuffinPile slapped Teddy’s mom and dad, claiming “they made it possible for him to get to 600 pounds, close to his death” through their passivity. “He is not much longer for this world,” they said. “These are based on his decisions for which you are not responsible.”

Ittybittydittycom described the serious nature of the situation even more. “They are not going to have Teddy for long if he stays at 600kg,” they warned. “They’re killing their own child with food. The parents will most likely survive Teddy.”

Droppedelbow was in no doubt as to who was to blame. “That these parents enable their own child to enter this state is appalling,” they wrote. “Yes, he is an adult and should know better, but they have clearly made it possible for him since birth, so he had no chance of developing self-awareness.”

Moonlightxrose, meanwhile, concluded that both the woman and her brother Teddy were “let down” by their parents. Lifeonthegrid offered a different perspective, writing: “For what is it worth, I think there is a clear possibility that the mother (possibly also father) was traumatized by the birth and never got the help she needed. Sad all around.”

According to data published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there has been a sharp increase in the number of people classified as overweight in the United States

Data show that when comparing the period from 1999 to 2000 with 2017 to 2018, the prevalence of obesity in the United States went from 30.5 percent to 42.4 percent.

Even worse, the incidence of severe obesity has risen from 4.7 percent to 9.2 percent during that period. Obesity is associated with a number of health conditions, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and cancer.

The CDC found that in 2008 alone, the medical costs of obesity in the United States were $ 147 billion, while the medical costs of obese people averaged $ 1,429 higher than those incurred by people with a healthy weight.
