Jesse Lingard seems to have decided to leave Manchester United.
BBC Sport, The Times and The Telegraph all report that contract negotiations have broken down.
Lingard, 28, recently lost his place in the English squad due to lack of playing time and was not called up even when players dropped out.
The Manchester United midfielder had impressed on loan at West Ham in the second half of last season.
He was convinced to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford and has barely played.
Poor decision making all around
Lingard has not started a single Premier League match this season for United.
This is despite the fact that Bruno Fernandes has only scored one goal for the club since the first day of the season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has wasted Lingard’s rejuvenation and taken him back to the starting point.
It happens despite Lingard scoring two league goals from the bench and delivering an assist in the Champions League, where he has not started either.
Lingard’s contract expires next summer, and there is great interest from clubs at home and abroad.
He could now push for an exit in January on a permanent deal or leave for free.
From United’s perspective, this is bad business. The club could have landed at least £ 20-25 million for him last summer.
This opportunity has now been wasted, and while it is possible that Lingard may return with great performances over the next month or so, it appears that his opinion has been decided and his decision to leave may further hamper his chances for playing time.
Here’s a look at how Manchester United fans have reacted to the latest Lingard reports …
