Dramatic police shooting captured on Gardiner Expressway in Toronto

A video circulating on social media today shows some tense moments between police and people in a car stopped on a highway in Toronto.

The footage sent to TikTok was shot from a vehicle passing on the Gardiner Expressway, showing Toronto Police vehicles surrounding a silver-colored car.

Several police officers are out of their vehicles and at least two have pulled out weapons and are pointing at the people in the car.

“Get on the ground,” the police shout. “Front down, front down.”

The people in the car go out with their hands up.

The video looks like it could be from a police drama in which officers catch robbers or a murder suspect, but it all stems from an incident on the roads, Toronto police say.

Thursday around 3:30 p.m., police responded to a call for a person with a gun, Toronto Police Service spokesman David Hopkinson told blogTO.

Police received a report that two drivers were involved in an altercation on the roads, and one produced a gun that threatened to fire, Hopkinson said.

Officers stopped a car on the Gardiner Expressway near Yonge Street. The driver and passengers were examined, but eventually no gun was found, he says.

“The vehicle and occupants were released unconditionally,” he says.

Driving a car can be stressful in the city, causing some to vent their rage at drivers, wild fights or provoke racist tirades. Grateful Thursday’s incident appears to have ended without serious injury.
