Scarlett Johansson will produce the Top-Secret Marvel Project

At a ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel last night, Scarlett Johansson become the 35th actor to win the American Cinematheque Award, which “is awarded annually to an extraordinary artist who is currently making a significant contribution to the art of the moving picture.” People who came to praise her and her work included her Marvel co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Sam Rockwell, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Sam Rockwell and Jon Favreau. But that was not the big news of the night.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was also there, announcing at random: “We are already working on another non-Black widow-related, top-secret Marvel Studios project with her as producer. “It’s weird, mainly because Johannson brought an action just last July against Disney, who claimed that the focal point of both cinema and streaming release on Disney + streaming service violated Johansson’s contract with the company, which guaranteed that the film would get an exclusive cinema release, which allegedly cost the actor to lose millions of dollars. That lawsuit was settled privately blot two months ago, in September. The fact that Johansson is already working with Marvel Studios again is extremely remarkable, especially since this must mean that whatever she negotiated in her private arbitration with Disney was satisfactory enough that she did not carry the company any malice (Johansson continues also with work with Disney Beyond Marvel, starring in an upcoming film adaptation of the Disney park tour The tower of terror).

But the other notable aspect is, if not Black Widow-related, what on earth could this project be? Johansson has been playing Avenger for over a decade, beginning in the 2010s Iron Man 2, followed by eight more Marvel Cinematic Universe movies that culminated in this year Black widow. Granted, Feige only said that she should only be a producer instead of starring in the project, but she’s so intertwined with Natasha Romanoff that it still seems strange that the character would not be involved. Personally, I suspect Feige may be deliberately shy, and it could be a TV series or a movie starring Black widow‘s Florence Pugh, who played Romanoff’s co-murderer and de facto little sister Yelena Belova. That movie ended with mysterious Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) tells Yelena that Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) had murdered Natasha, which led her to seek revenge. When Pugh gets to appear in the upcoming Hawkeye series, it will probably be fixed out there. But Yelena was such a breakaway character in Black widow I could very easily see her get her own movie or show. If it’s called Yelena, and the character has dealt with his revenge problems, so Feige could technically say that Black Widow is not involved … from a particular point of view.

But on his face, “non-black widow-related” certainly sounds like Johansson wants to produce a movie or series about one or more new characters who want to join MCU. Anyone guess? Tell us in the comments!
