Eight elementary school students in New York City, believed to be between eight and 10 years old, were taken to a hospital Thursday after possibly being shocked when two people on the sidewalk fired a stun gun into the air and hit the fence, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation.

According to police, two men in their 20s were in the schoolyard for PS 305 in Ridgewood when they allegedly inserted some sort of stun gun that hit a fence.

Eight children aged 8 to 10 apparently leaned against the fence when the incident took place, police said. The children were taken to Wyckoff Hospital to be checked out. Police say the children received non-life-threatening injuries.

Local 237, which also represents the school’s security agents, said about 5 to 6 children ages 6 to 8 were taken to Wyckoff Hospital after someone tazed on the fence they were leaning against. 12:30.

In a statement, the city’s Ministry of Education issued a statement saying: “The safety of our students is paramount and the safety of the school responded immediately to an incident during recess. We are helping the NYPD with an investigation and with great caution the young people involved were transported to a local hospital without injury. “
