“Stop letting a young black man take the blame”

In the wake of the recent tragedy at Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival, Chuck D has sent an open letter to Live Nation, demanding that they take responsibility for the incident and accuse them of redirecting the blame to Scott.

“I’m tired of these companies abdicating their most crucial responsibility,” Chuck D. wrote. “I do not buy that the young black man did. He is blamed for a crime while the old white men leading the corps , as Travis and his fans entrusted their lives, remain silent in the shadows. “

The excuse for Scott’s irresponsible actions is not being washed away, ”the Public Enemy founder continued. “If his act had a history of that behavior, why then promote him to bigger venues, why then go with him in the first place and let him head a larger audience? Live Nation controlled this show.” Chuck D went on to describe how artists have hesitated to speak out against Live Nations’ negligence for fear of being blacklisted, accusing them of profiting from “Black pain, trauma and death.” Read the full letter below.

As a refresher: The first night of Houston’s Astroworld, on November 5, a large crowd of participants stormed the stage. Disturbing videos of the event show fans being lifted out of the crowd unconscious, while prayers for help were often overlooked. Ten people have died and lawsuits are seeking hundreds of millions of dollars from Scott, Live Nation and others. Scott, who has previously been under fire for encouraging ruthless behavior at his shows, issued an apology on social media, writing: “Houston PD have my full support as they continue to take a closer look at the tragic loss of human life. I is committed to working with the Houston community to heal and support families in need. “
