As part of its cultural program, Aix-Marseille University, which has chosen to place the year 2021-2022 under the sign of culture and good cohabitation, celebrates a new highlight: the presentation of “treasures”. »Preserved by its University Libraries (BU), during an exceptional exhibition in both physical and virtual format.

These rare, old, precious, astonishing “treasures” are placed in reserves and therefore largely unknown to the public. The most representative of them have since the beginning of November 2021 been presented in a physical exhibition, unprecedented in its scope, its format and its obligation to reveal the original documents and objects. Thanks to an inventive scenography, the visitor can discover all the heterogeneity that it is possible to associate with the concept of “treasure”: the exhibition actually brings together a musical liturgical fragment, a seaweed tree, a few manuscripts and incunabula, a version of Thousand and One Nights , a Provencal legal text … The oldest exhibited copy dates from the 13th century, the most recent (lithograph by Gao Xingjian, Nobel Prize in Literature 2000) belongs to a contemporary work whose creation continues.

To discover and enrich this unique heritage, a program of visits and conferences with the exhibition follows: HERE

The exhibition’s website, which is freely available, allows us to approach these “treasures” from a different angle, especially thanks to the complete digitization of the vast majority of them in Aix’s digital cultural heritage library – Marseille University, Odyssey: odyssee. univ-amu.fr
