Jesse Lingard’s future at Manchester United has been further investigated after he posted a picture of himself in a West Ham shirt amid reports that contract negotiations have collapsed at Old Trafford.
The English national team player has had a hard time winning a first team place under Ole Gunnar Solskjær this season, and his current contract expires next summer.
And according to Sky Sports this afternoon, negotiations for a new deal with United have fallen apart and United are said to be willing to accept loan offers for him in January.
There is a growing acceptance that Lingard will then become a free agent next summer, which will trigger a major battle for his signature amid connections to Villa and West Ham, where he enjoyed a profitable loan spell last season.
In the wake of Sky Sports’ report, Lingard posted a photo on his Instagram stories of him in a Hammers jersey.
Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan under David Moyes, for whom he scored nine goals and recorded five assists in 16 games.
Sky Sports claims that Lingard has decided that he does not intend to sign an extension with his representatives, making it clear that he sees his future away from United, which is his boys’ club.

Lingard’s post of him in a West Ham shirt seems to indicate he would be willing to return to London Stadium, where the Hammers have had a fantastic start to the season.
Victory over Liverpool before the international break has given hope for a Champions League promotion, and the addition of Lingard would undoubtedly strengthen those ambitions.
Villa have also been linked with Lingard, and fans were quick to take to Twitter to urge new boss Steven Gerrard to take a step for him.
Here’s what they had to say.
