Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received a video message from Israeli President Isaac Herzog after Al Nahyan received the “Researcher Statesman” award for his role in spreading peace and tolerance around the world.
The Israeli president congratulated the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi on the award, stressing that “his peace decisions are a historic turning point for the region.”
In a video message sent to the honor ceremony, Herzog said: “On my own behalf and on behalf of the State of Israel, I congratulate Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on this award from The Washington Institute,” adding, in Arabic, “Congratulations.”
And he continued, “For the people of Israel, peace is the goal we pray for every day, and I am honored to be today in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the founder of peace.”
He pointed out that “the Ibrahim agreements and the steps taken by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to welcome all adherents of the Abrahamic religions in the Emirates represent a historic turning point for us.”
He pointed out that “these decisions will lead to a brighter and more peaceful future for all countries and peoples of the Middle East.”
He added: “Let’s look at Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s courageous decision, which will help transform the region into a center of innovation, an oasis of stability and a home of respect for religions.”
“We look forward to working together to deepen relations between the two countries and reach the stage of integration,” he added.
He continued, “When I see the prosperity of the United Arab Emirates in all areas of artificial intelligence, technology and others, and the prosperity of the Jewish community with this cooperation, we realize that we are on the right path.”
The Israeli president thanked Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Emirati’s ambassador to Washington, Yousef Al-Otaiba, and expressed his ambition to receive them in Jerusalem soon.
The Israeli president ended his speech by thanking everyone in Arabic and saying, “Thank you.”
The Washington Institute for Near East Policy presented the Global Award to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at a ceremony in Abu Dhabi for his “leading in global peace efforts and the spread of religious tolerance.”
The Institute’s Scholar Award pays tribute to outstanding leaders who, through their public service and professional achievements, exemplify the idea that a unique knowledge of history is essential for wise and effective policy and the promotion of peace and security in the Middle East.
Past winners include Jordan’s King Abdullah II, former Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, former US President Bill Clinton and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The award was won by former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Henry Kissinger and George Shultz and former US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.
