The OnePlus November 2021 update is now on these devices

OnePlus promises to deliver regular system updates to its wide range of smartphones for at least two years and in some cases longer to flagships, so let’s see how they handle the November 2021 security update.

OnePlus November 2021 Security Update – What’s New?

Google added the November security patch as the first post-Android 12 updates to all eligible Pixel devices, but as usual, Samsung was actually the first to drop the latest security fix for its hugely popular Galaxy series in in late October – which is very impressive.

However, OnePlus has lagged behind after doing well in recent months to keep current and previous handsets updated. The November 2021 security patch did not arrive on OnePlus devices until 21 days later. While this is shocking, it’s not surprising, as many OnePlus devices are on a different monthly update schedule, and so you may be wondering if your device is set to be updated.

This is remarkable as it also comes as the previous October patch still has not hit the entire OnePlus series. All in all, it’s incredibly disappointing, but still not that new. The security patch from October 2021 has therefore only started arriving on a small pool of OnePlus devices that did not get the September update. This previous update made a few changes to the system and even added the Files by Google app to certain handsets.

If Android 12 is set to be available in the coming weeks, we hope the rollout will include the very latest security fix by then. Given the latest track record, though, it’s someone’s guess at this point.

OnePlus devices with the November 2021 update

OnePlus 9 Series

The flagship duo is set to be replaced in the coming months, but until then, the biggest releases in OnePlus’ history are still the most up-to-date. That’s a big downside once again you will need to run experimental or beta software on your device to get the November 2021 security update on your OnePlus 9 Series handset.

OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 2 started rolling out with a series of tweaks and fixes for the pre-release build of Android 12. It also included the very latest patch among all the added software tuning. We are not yet sure if an Android 11 build of OxygenOS will come to the OnePlus 9 series with the latest patch, which means this is the only way to be updated at the moment.

For those running Android 11 on their OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, the Chinese technology company confirmed the rollout of OxygenOS 11.2.10.10 in a dedicated blog post on the official forums. This update brings some other performance adjustments from third-party apps, but most importantly, it ensures that those not running Android 12 Beta can still be updated.

OnePlus Nord series

According to reports, OnePlus Nord 2 appears to receive the security update from November 2021, but a diversion thanks to two unique software builds. OxygenOS DN2101_11_A.13 for the Indian variant. and OxygenOS DN2103_11_A.12 for those in Europe seems to be rolling out right now with a number of adjustments.

Only the Indian OTA update seems to bring the latest patch while the October 2021 security patch comes with the European version. This means a bump from the September patch for those in Europe, but a disappointing one nonetheless. Both builds are still based on Android 11, which suggests we’ll have to wait a little longer to see a stable Android 12 build of OxygenOS on North Series devices.

Despite a muted launch, the OnePlus Nord CE is a compelling budget Android device with a few compromises to help make it a pretty attractive offering. The fact that common security patches are also included is just a bonus with the November 2021 security patch that arrives with the OxygenOS 11.1.0.1 update on November 23rd. This patch contains nothing more than a few stability adjustments and the most up-to-date security patch and is available in a few variants for the various global markets.

OxygenOS 11.0.3 is also rolling out with the November 2021 security patch for the OnePlus Nord N10 5G. Like the patch for North CE, this just adds another layer of security and solves a few of the common network stability issues that some owners have faced. This build comes in two different versions for those in North American and European markets.

One of the most affordable models, the OnePlus Nord N200 5G is also updated to the latest security patch per. November 25 OxygenOS 11.0.30 now rolls out according to XDA, with the patch notes including very little else.

Devices are still awaiting the October patch

While we see a very small pool of devices getting the latest patch, a larger selection of the OnePlus hardware offering is still running the now obsolete security fixes from September and October 2021 – all listed. We are not quite sure if or when we could see the devices updated, but we hope they will be fixed soon.

  • OnePlus 9 Series
    • OnePlus 9 (patch for September 2021)
    • OnePlus 9 Pro (patch from September 2021)
    • OnePlus 9R (patch from September 2021)
  • OnePlus Nord series
    • OnePlus Nord (October 2021 patch)
    • OnePlus Nord CE (patch from September 2021)
    • OnePlus Nord 2 (September 2021 patch)
    • OnePlus Nord N10 5G (October 2021 patch)
    • OnePlus Nord N100 (September 2021 patch)
    • OnePlus Nord N200 5G (patch from September 2021)

Devices that are not eligible for the latest security update

OnePlus 6T will not receive the November 2021 security update

It is worth noting that not all OnePlus devices are eligible for the latest security patch. This can be for various reasons, but most often this is because support is being removed or terminated due to an entity aging. For those with OnePlus 6 and 6T, it is unlikely that the device duo will be updated as the series is now longer than the promised 3-year software support window.

Long-term support will therefore not be officially offered. Instead, you may be able to access additional features, functions, and security patches through unofficial third-party ROM channels. Currently, the latest stable OTA update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T includes the September 2021 security patch.

How can I get the November 2021 security patch on my OnePlus device?

OnePlus is in the habit of rolling out updates to devices in a phased manner. This means that the first release and subsequent confirmation on the OnePlus forums do not always indicate when you will be able to grab an OTA file and have your device updated / patched.

Our advice is to use a third-party application to get updates in a timely manner. The community-driven Oxygen Updater allows you to page load official .zip update files as soon as they are publicly available. While this will ensure that you get updates right away, you may need to return to an older build if you encounter issues. This may require a device reset if there are major issues.
