Police are evacuating residents during an apparent standstill overnight

One person was remanded in custody early Friday morning after a fight involving SWAT team members and Massachusetts State Police overnight. The situation began around 1:30 a.m. in a home on David Street, near Warren Avenue, in Brockton. Police said they were called to the area when a shot detection system was triggered in the area. No one was injured in the shooting, but police said at least one vehicle was damaged. Armed officers surrounded the home on 33 Davids Street, where they said a suspect was inside. Officers were seen carrying a shield while evacuating residents from their homes in the area. Police said a crisis negotiator spoke to the suspect over the next few hours. Shortly before 6 a.m., a man in a red sweatshirt was seen leaving a home with his hands up. He walked down the stairs from a porch, turned around and was taken into custody by SWAT officers. Police have not released the man’s name or announced if he faces any charges. After conducting a search warrant, officers said they found a Glock firearm, a long rifle, two high-capacity ammunition magazines, ammunition and crack cocaine inside the man’s apartment.
