Homelessness organization Emmaus Salford appeals for food and festive items to fill 250 Christmas suitcases for local families and households in need.

Emmaus Salford runs Lucie’s Pantry, a social supermarket that delivers food and things to the home to members of the Salford community who are struggling to make ends meet due to debt, illness or low income. The team that runs Lucie’s Pantry is in the process of preparing 250 Christmas balls, one for each of their pantry members and other households in need.

Kev, one of the people running Lucie’s Pantry, said: “Christmas is about giving and we hope people think of the less fortunate at this time of year. We support many people and families who are really struggling , and hopefully these inhibitors will ease a bit of the pressure off their shoulders. “

Prevent donations at Emmaus Salford

Emmaus Salford is a charity that supports former homeless people by providing them with a stable home, meaningful work and individual support. Lucie’s Pantry is run by former homeless people supported by Emmaus along with local volunteers.

The team is appealing for donations of non-perishable foods and items that will make Christmas a little more special for their members. Donations can include Christmas puddings, festive chocolates, biscuits, Christmas biscuits, sweets, delicious soap or anything else in addition to what is usually offered from the pantry.

Jackie Smith, Business Development Manager at Emmaus Salford, said: “We’ve been preparing Christmas balls for our Lucie’s Pantry members for the last few years and they were really well received.

“Our pantry membership has increased this year and we also want to offer inhibitors to other households that we have supported through the pandemic. Any inhibitor donation you can save will make a huge difference to our appeal!”

You can drop off donations for Lucie’s Pantry inhibiting appeal at Emmaus Salford’s Community Homestore Monday through Saturday at 7 p.m. 10.00 and 15.00. The charity must inhibit donations by Friday, December 10th.
