Visitors to the 20th edition of the Liwa Date Festival are attracted by the presence of a large model depicting an Emirati burqa, decorated with colorful pieces of palm trees covered in burqa material each day, and brought by participants in an interactive workshop organized by Abu Dhabi Heritage. The authority, in collaboration with the Emirati artist Azza Al Qubaisi, also participates in a pavilion that includes some of his artistic works in various materials, among which palm materials have a prominent presence, such as grapes and palm leaves. Azza explained that he has participated in the festival since the beginning, and he said that his idea is an opportunity to present new plastics, the interactive model of the burqa, which he is working on with the audience of the festival, to work on the usual burqa material for them. “palmondo begia” decoration, which is based on the waves of the palm tree, and forms a main element among the elements of the model.
As he explained, the idea of the model was born in the framework of the celebration of the Authority in the 20th session of the festival with Emirati costumes, and his role, as a visual artist, was to present this content in a contemporary style. he worked with various materials that varied between steel, iron, palm and magnets to revive the idea of the traditional burqa, and the connection between the palm and its important heritage significance and women’s modesty and elegance. . He was happy to support the festival, and emphasized the importance of promoting innovation in the production of great works of art of this kind. When designing the innovative stands used to hang the palm trees during the festival, he took into account the importance of responding to their functional and aesthetic aspects at the same time.
