The Yemeni group says it collided with US warships trying to protect two US merchant ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

As a result, the Houthis said a US ship took a “direct hit”, forcing the two merchant ships to withdraw from the area.

“Many of our ballistic missiles hit their targets despite attempts by warships to intercept them,” the Houthis said in a statement.

“Yemen’s military forces used numerous ballistic missiles in clashes that lasted more than two hours.”

The group, which presents itself as the official armed forces of the country, added that the “blockade” against navigation in Israel’s Red Sea will last until the end of the war in Gaza.

This statement contradicts that of the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM), which said that of the three missiles the Houthis fired at its ships, none hit their target.

“A missile hit the sea. The other two missiles were successfully launched and shot down by the USS Gravely [DDG 107]” said US CENTCOM.
