Two nurses on New York’s Long Island are accused of forging Covid-19 vaccination cards and entering the fake jabs into the state’s database, a scam that has reportedly brought in more than $ 1.5 million.

Suffolk County District Attorney on Friday arrested Julie DeVuono, 49, the owner and operator of Wild Child Pediatric Healthcare in Amityville and her employee, Marissa Urraro, 44, according to a complaint.

From November 2021 to January 2022, the couple allegedly forged vaccination cards and charged adults $ 220 apiece and $ 85 per child for a false registration that would land in the New York State Immunization Information System database. Prosecutors said DeVuono and Urrano on one or more occasions allegedly made records to indicate that a vaccine was given to an undercover detective despite the fact that they had never administered the vaccine.

During a search of Julie DeVuono’s home, officials said officers seized about $ 900,000.

“Counterfeiting COVID-19 vaccination cards and entering false information in New York
The state database used to track vaccination records endangers the health and well-being of others and undermines efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus, “said Special Agent Scott Lampert in a statement announcing the allegations.

During a search of DeVuono’s home, officials said officers seized about $ 900,000. They have reportedly also found a general ledger documenting profits from the scheme of over $ 1.5 million.

DeVuono and Urraro are each charged with a second degree of forgery. DeVuono is also being charged with a further charge of offering a false instrument for first-degree submission. The couple’s legal defense was not immediately clear.

Just a month ago, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a bill criminalizing fake Covid-19 vaccination cards.
