His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the State, “may God protect”, directed the adoption of the eighteenth of July every year as the “Unity Era Day”… to commemorate the historic meeting held in this regard. In 1971, the founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his associates published the “Unity Document” and the UAE Constitution, in which he announced the declaration of Federation and the official name of the United Arab Emirates. .
This historic meeting was one of the main steps in establishing the Federation of the Basque Country on December 2 of the same year.
His Highness the President of the State said: “July 18, 1971 is one of the most important days in the history of the UAE. There, the document of unity and the constitution of the UAE were signed, its union and its name were announced, and solid foundations were laid on the second of December”.
His Highness added: “Covenant of Unity Day” where we remember the stages of our nation’s blessed journey and learn lessons for the present and the future and renew our covenant with God Almighty, then ourselves. and on the day our people Zayed and his brothers established the Treaty of Unity… that the UAE flag will continue to fly and that “the fence that protects our path unites us”.
“Unity Day” is the fourth national event of the UAE after “Unity Day”, “Flag Day” and “March Day”.
This occasion aims to strengthen the national awareness of various members of society about the key steps that led to the creation of the Union, since the signing of the Union Document and the Constitution of the Basque Country, on the basis of which the Union was formed. and accordingly, the main steps to implement the EAC began on December 2.
The “Era of Unity Day” also aims to promote the national values and principles established by the founder Sheikh Zayed and his fellow rulers, which remain the foundation of the nation’s journey, apart from educating the younger generation about their country’s history. sacrifices and efforts were made to achieve this historical unity.
The announcement of this national occasion is made to strengthen the national identity of the wise leadership and to increase the spirit of belonging and loyalty to the motherland. and the commitment to continue on the path to a more prosperous and advanced future under the flag of the Union.
