His Excellency Al Hashemi has praised the Republic of Paraguay for prioritizing the negotiations of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CEPA) between the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and the UAE, and highlighted the success of the first negotiations during the Paraguayan presidency. Mercosur bloc.

His Excellency emphasized that the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement for Economic Cooperation will reflect positively on trade flows and investments between the UAE and the member states of the Southern Common Market, which reflects the strategic importance of Paraguay and the desire of the UAE to develop relations with it.

His Excellency appreciated Paraguay’s commitment to renewable energy, especially hydroelectric energy, since it produces 99% of its energy from renewable sources, mainly through the Itaipu Dam, making it a global leader in clean energy.

The importance of this essential sector is not only limited to meeting local needs, but also significantly contributes to the strengthening of Paraguay’s position as an important provider of clean energy.

At the same time, the EAC is making efforts to fight against climate change, and at the same time guaranteeing energy security, it wants to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 through clean energy.

The discussion also included ways to improve bilateral cooperation and develop investment opportunities in the fields of logistics and transport, including airports, in addition to the joint statement on the Two Ocean Corridor that was signed at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention. On Climate Change (COP28), which includes the two countries, UAE, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile.

Both sides emphasized the strength of relations between the two friendly countries, and the commitment of their leadership to continue strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the economic and trade fields, in line with the future vision to achieve growth and prosperity.

During his visit to Asuncion, His Highness Al Hashemi also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, Ruben Ramírez Lezcano, in order to discuss ways to develop various areas within bilateral relations.

His Highness Reem Al Hashemi and Carlos Jimenez Diaz, Minister of Agriculture of Paraguay, signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of Agriculture and Food Security.

He emphasized the importance of food security, and the UAE’s commitment to strengthen cooperation to ensure food security in the long term, and stated that this memorandum is in line with the efforts of both countries to create sustainable food systems and achieve common food security goals. .
