His Excellency, Hamid Al Zaabi, Director General of the Executive Office for Combating Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism, welcomed Elisa de Andak to take over the chairmanship of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) from July 2024 to June 2026.

Elisa De Anda began her role as president of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), as part of a presidential mandate that runs until June 2026, after being elected by the group’s General Assembly last February.

Elisa has a decade of experience fighting money laundering and terrorist financing, and is currently a member of the General Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit in Mexico.

Elissa held the position of Vice-Chair of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for three years until last year, where she led important initiatives and represented the organization globally, working with regional and international organizations.

Prior to assuming international positions, Elissa worked for the Government of Mexico, where she served as Attaché to the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, DC, focusing her efforts on strengthening bilateral relations with the United States on anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing issues. and formulating related policies.

His Excellency Hamid Al Zaabi explained: We congratulate Elissa de Anda on assuming her duties as Chair of the FATF, and we are confident that her extensive experience and dedication to the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing will significantly contribute to the achievement of the group’s goals.

Al Zaabi emphasized that the UAE is committed to cooperating with De Anda and his team, while fully supporting initiatives and measures aimed at strengthening international efforts to combat these crimes, strengthening the global financial system and ensuring its integrity and security, and stated that the UAE will continue to be an active partner in the community, in line with international standards, strengthening national policies and procedures against money laundering and terrorist financing.
