The UAE reaffirms its full support for initiatives to strengthen the global financial system

Hamed Al Zaabi, Director General of the Executive Office to Combat Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, welcomed Elisa de Anda’s assumption of the presidency of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) from July 2024 to June 2026. “We congratulate Elisa de Anda on assuming her duties as FATF President, and we are confident that her extensive experience and dedication to combating money laundering and terrorist financing will contribute to the achievement of the group’s goals.”

As Al Zaabi emphasized in a statement to “WAM”, “the UAE is committed to cooperating with De Anda and his associated group to strengthen international efforts to combat these crimes, while fully supporting initiatives and measures aimed at strengthening the global financial system. ensuring its integrity and security”, he stated that “the UAE will continue to be an active partner in the international community, strengthening national policies and procedures to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, in line with international standards”.

Elisa De Anda began her duties as president of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for a presidential term that runs until June 2026, after being elected by the group’s General Assembly last February. He has a decade of experience in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing, and is currently a member of the Mexican Treasury and Public Credit Secretariat.

Elisa de Anda was the vice-president of the Financial Action Group (FAFI) for three years until last year, where she led important initiatives and represented the organization at the global level, in cooperation with regional organizations and international organizations.

Before assuming international positions, he worked in the Mexican government, where he served as Attaché to the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, DC, focusing his efforts on strengthening bilateral relations with the United States on anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing issues, and related policy formulation.
